What is a Tri-Hex?

“Tri-Hex” is a new construction method developed by Lee Koch from Nebraska.  Lee’s design brings all of the structural properties of the triangle to bamboo rod construction with none of its problems. The above photograph shows the configuration of the strips. The bottom picture shows a cross-section samplet.   Tri-Hex rods have a crisp smooth action with less rod bounce than a conventional hexagonal rod of the same taper.  Although they are “faster”, tri-hex rods can be cast and fished slower because of their increased efficiency.  They will take their place along side “Quads” and “Pentas” offering fly fishermen another choice in the action and feel of a bamboo fly rod.
